What exactly constitutes “good graphic design” is, of course, always somewhat in the eye of the beholder—in this case, that of the client. However, there are some basic rules for good design that are universally applicable. These include: good design should be innovative. It should make a product usable. Good design is aesthetic and should contribute to our well-being. Good design makes a product (which could be a web design, a website, a brochure, or an application) understandable. And good design is honest, unobtrusive, and long-lasting. Good design should be consistent. And last but not least: Good design, as Dieter Rams, one of the most famous product designers of the 20th century, says, good design is as little design as possible.
