How long does a web design project take?
Do you need a web design or a website – by yesterday? Find out how much time you should plan for a web design.
If you commission a web agency to create a new web design or program a website, it’s understandable that you want the site online as quickly as possible. At the same time, you naturally expect an outstanding result that supports the goals you’re pursuing with your new website. The conception and planning, design, and programming of a new website require some time. This time varies depending on the complexity and technical requirements. The process can generally be divided into four key phases:
1. Planning and Conception
At the beginning of every project, my web agency provides a thorough consultation. During this step, I learn about your vision for your website, the topics and content you want to present, the required features, and the target audience you want to address. Based on this information, I present you with various concepts that address both the web design and the content. A reputable web agency will also consider questions regarding multilingualism or the consideration of regional specifics. After the initial consultation, I will prepare a suitable proposal that covers all subsequent steps of the project.
2. Web Design – The Design Phase
In the next step, I create a customized web design based on your goals and requirements, aligning with your existing branding or corporate identity. Typically, my web agency will provide you with several design proposals, which will be adjusted through several rounds of revisions until the result meets your expectations. The number of revisions influences the project duration: the fewer adjustments required, the faster the design will be finalized. This phase typically takes about 1-2 weeks.
3. Website Programming
Once the web design of your new website has been finalized, the next step is the technical implementation. This step is usually quick and requires no further intervention on your part. Programming usually takes around a week, but can take 2-3 weeks for more complex websites.
4. Website Content Creation
Once the technical implementation is complete, the content for each page is added. This includes all media displayed on the website – text, images, videos, illustrations, and more. As a client, you can directly influence this step: The more content you provide to my web agency in a finished form, the faster it can be integrated, which shortens the project timeline. However, text and image content usually require further editing to ensure a harmonious overall look and a user-friendly presentation. For an average website with around 10 pages, you should expect a processing time of 1 to 2 weeks.
Complexity and Project Duration
As you can see, it’s impossible to say how long a web design project will take overall, as this depends heavily on the complexity of the website and your involvement. However, as a rough guide, you should plan at least one month for an average web design project. If you’re aiming for a fixed launch date, it’s advisable to allow for additional buffer time and commission my web agency well in advance.
