In 2011, the Berlin-based Oriel Quartet commissioned Sebastian Klammer Grafikdesign Berlin to create a brand identity—along with a matching website—for the four-member string ensemble. Central to the design concept was the idea of highlighting what makes the Oriel Quartet unique: the notion of exchange—specifically, the commitment to broadening the horizons of quartet performance through collaboration, experimentation, and innovation. The quartet was founded at the Royal College of Music in London before putting down roots in Berlin in 2010. Although they had previously graced a host of magnificent venues—such as the National Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum—the quartet has since embraced the gritty side of Berlin, favoring ruins, construction sites, clubs, and nearly abandoned churches as settings for their interdisciplinary events. The Oriel Quartet has been recorded by some of Berlin’s most sought-after producers; in addition to their work in pop music, they also take on creative challenges across the realms of television, the internet, and film.
