YouCard develops professional system solutions for the identification of people and objects across Europe. The company draws upon over 20 years of experience—as well as strong partnerships with leading manufacturers of card printers, plastic cards, and ID systems. One of the company’s key focus areas is ID cards featuring various chip carriers (tags, labels, etc.). YouCard specializes in the creation, printing, personalization, and encoding of cards and other RFID media. In 2012, Sebastian Klammer Grafikdesign Berlin designed the first redesign of the existing YouCard website, with a primary focus on creating a contemporary, easy-to-navigate, and clearly structured web design. YouCard distributes a wide range of hardware devices and services; these needed to be presented on the website in clearly defined categories to enable customers to quickly locate the exact solution they required.
The web design for the YouCard website performed highly successfully for over 12 years, achieving excellent Google rankings and thereby contributing significantly to the success of the Wetzlar-based company. Nevertheless, by 2024, the time had come for a relaunch. In the interim, technological advancements had made it possible to manage content more easily, more automatically, and with less effort than had previously been feasible. The new website was to be adapted to take advantage of these new capabilities. Furthermore, new design trends and developments had emerged, making a modernization of the web design a highly desirable objective.
The YouCard website features various information areas, including product categories, manufacturer pages, and product detail pages, as well as service offerings, industry-specific solutions, and utility features such as downloads, whitepapers, and similar resources. To ensure a design for individual pages that is both consistent and engaging, the new web design was meticulously planned down to the last detail. Numerous drafts and design variations were created—revised, discarded, and refined—until the final web design for the new YouCard website took shape. As with its predecessor, the website’s technical foundation was built upon WordPress; however, it features a heavily customized backend specifically tailored to meet the company’s unique requirements. This system facilitates simple and intuitive product management through dedicated editing interfaces that, on the one hand, ensure a high degree of consistency while, on the other, offering ample flexibility for variations. The individual pages of the YouCard website can be flexibly constructed using dynamic sections, which streamline the creation, maintenance, and deployment of content areas across the entire site.
A critical priority for this web design project was the preservation of search engine rankings. YouCard had successfully established a strong position in the Google and Bing SERPs—a standing that absolutely could not be compromised by the website’s relaunch. For this reason, the URL structure—both for the website as a whole and for individual pages—was strictly maintained, despite the implementation of an entirely new technical infrastructure. Furthermore, great emphasis was placed on highly efficient coding to ensure rapid loading times for every single page.
The result—the new web design for Youcard.de—went live in late 2024 and has served as the company’s digital storefront ever since. Sebastian Klammer Grafikdesign Berlin continues to provide ongoing support to YouCard regarding the website’s maintenance, technical updates, and further development.
